Morabito Art Villa - Bali

On my last visit to Bali I stayed at this amazing villa resort, Morabito Art Villa. The place is an oasis of pure relaxation, and staying there was just like living in Paradise.

Architecture and decoration, redesigned by Paris designer Pascal Morabito is a marriage of the contemporary and ancient works of art. I am very impressed by his work and get a lot of inspiration from Pascal every time I meet him. And from the rest of his creative family; both his wife Marie-Eve and their son Teo are very talented photographers, while their youngest son Tao is dedicated to filmmaking. Both the place and the hosts are great sources of inspiration.

Morabito Art Villa is located on Berawa Beach, on the southwest coast of Bali, walking distance from Seminyak. It can accommodate up to 25 guests and is the perfect place to celebrate weddings and other big events.

Antique spiral staircase

I needed to find a spiral staircase when we renovated the loft above our apartment. I found this unique antique staircase via blocket.se in Sweden. I think it is from the 1890s, made of iron at Göteborgs Nya Werkstads AB. It was in bad condition but with some renovation and painting I am happy with the result.

Trash?

Someone was about to throw this sewing machine table in a trash container outside my apartment.
I painted it white and it became one of my favorite furnitures.
I got this Apache bike the same way. I saw the handle bars sticking out of the trash, got curious, climbed inside and rescued it.

I love my new bike!

DIY - Decoupage

This photo collage is from my kitchen.
This is how I made it:

1. Put wallpaper paste on the background/wall.
2. Place photos all over the background.
3. Put two layers of Varnish on top.

I used the same technique on this map. A poster on a MDF plank.

Inspiration - Bali

I love Bali! It has become my second home. A place I always have to go back to. In addition to sun, beach, surf, relaxation there are so many sources of inspiration. When I arrive I normally am tired from work, but when I leave my creativity has reached new levels and my bags are filled with interesting memories. The place is a mecca for handicraft, and you can get your own design ideas real in a couple of days. Each little village has their own handicraft tradition. Ubud is known for woodcarving, Celuk for gold and silver crafting and Batubulan for stone carving.

Recommended hangouts/cafés: Cafe Bali, Deus Ex Machina, Potato Head Beach Club, La Barca.

Place for interior shopping: Seminyak and Ubud.

Inspiration - Stairs

I am working on a project where we are building out the loft above the origin apartment. It will become a two story apartment when we finally open up the roof and install a staircase connecting the floors. So I am wondering.. which stairs to choose? Here are some cool stairs I found while searching inspiration.

DIY - Graphic slogans

I made these graphic slogans. This is how you do it:

1. Make your text in Adobe Illustrator. Mark the text and make the action "expand" (on the object menu)
2. Make a box.
3. Place the text over the box and mark both the text and the box. Go to the "window" menu, open "pathfinder" and use the"exclude" function.
Now you have a stencil.

4. Place the stencil over a photo and you have made your own piece of graphic art.

Inspiration - Hoddevik

A perfect place to go when you want to relax and get inspiration is Hoddevik, on the west coast of Norway. Here your cellphone is out of reach and you’re one with the nature. You can go hiking in the mountains, attend yoga classes and go surfing. Stay at Akka Surf – a hippie castle owned by a fantastic and inspiring lady, Anne Lerfald.
