Interior & furniture shopping - Bali

Handmade pendant lamps made of copper. Inspired by Tom Dixon?

My boyfriend, Sondre, making sure the local carpenters do a good job on the tables we've ordered ;)

Handmade ceramics from Jenggala.

Some of the recycled metal chairs we have ordered. The chairs are handmade at our special requests, and will come in three colors; turquoise, orange and white.

Some cool art for sale at Deus Ex Machinas' brand store in Canggu.

Bali is a great place for interior and furniture shopping. And since most of the products you find in the stores are also made here in Bali, it is possible to go directly to some of the manufactorers and make your own design. We already have a lot of custom-made furnitures from Bali in our apartment and there is more to come ;)

Some photos of the bedrooms in Casa Skjelderup. I am so happy that we found the rough brick wall behind some layers of wallpapers and plasterboards!
The bed is made out of recycled pallets - great storage for books etc.

Designer - Hans J. Wegner

I will follow up yesterday’s post about the CH33 chair with some more information about the designer behind, Hans J. Wegner.

Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) is among the most known Danish furniture designers to date. He made mid-century Danish design popular on an international scale with his deep understanding of the need for functionality and his love of natural and high quality materials. His style is often described as “Organic Functionality”

Wegner worked as a designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller’s architectural office before he established his own company in 1943. He designed more than 500 different chairs, many of which have become recognizable design icons and are to be found in the permanent collections of the world’s most prestigious museums.

One of his most talked about chairs is the Round chair which rose to stardom when used in the televised presidential debates between Nixon and Kennedy in 1960. It was featured on the cover of American interior magazines and referred to as “the world’s most beautiful chair”, and has since been known simply as “The Chair”.

Dining chair - CH33

I got an exciting phone call from an interior magazine today. They announced me as the winner of a photo contest held in their last issue :) I will tell you more about the contest and the magazine when the next issue is out. For now I can only tell you that I am soon to be an owner of a CH33 dining chair. Designed in 1957 by the "master of the chair" Hans Wegner and now recreated by the Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn.  I love it!

Restored furnitures - Teak from the 60s

Here are some of the furnitures I've been working on the last weeks. Solid teak furnitures from the 1960s. I will use some of them in interior styling while the rest of them are already sold.

New chairs for the balcony

Spring is in the air!! And time to get the balcony ready for the season. Started off by buying some
new chairs today. I ended up with two of the white Ocean models from Åhlens, 999 NOK.
Very cool, very comfortable but also very similar to the iconic 1950's Acapulco chairs...
I would prefer the original, but my account and the outdoor usage were telling me different..

The Ocean model at Åhlens comes in 4 colors; white, turquise, black and yellow.
"Inspired" by the original Acapulco models:
